Leavenworth High School Special Olympics

Purpose

Special Olympics provides sports training and athletic competition for individuals with mental retardation and/or other developmental disabilities.

General Information

The Leavenworth County Special Olympic Program offers competition in bowling, basketball, and track and field throughout the school year. They host a local basketball tournament and track meet during the year and utilize many volunteers from the local high schools and the community. Athletes must be at least 8 years old and participate in some special education classes while in school. The teams usually take six to eight out-of-town trips, with two trips being over-nighters. There is a very minimal cost to participants who compete at the state level competitions.

Any student who is interested in participating as an athlete or as a volunteer should contact Mrs. Lozenski for more information.
