Leavenworth High POC
(People of Color)
Purpose
POC was established in 1996 to encourage academic excellence, to promote culture awareness, to promote diversity, harmony, and communication within the school and within the community. POC’s motto is “Uniting People of All Colors.”

Membership
Membership is open to any student who has a desire to understand the culture of self and others through employment of positive communication tools. Students must have at least a 2.0 GPA and be interested in the total improvement of the community. Officers must have an excellent leadership history in POC and at least a 3.0 GPA.
Summary of Activities for 2005-06:
- School Clean-up
- Peer Tutoring
- Assisted Student Council with Trick-or-Can Project
- Assisted Coordinators of the Veteran’s Day Parade
- Adopted a family
- Attended the Black Leadership Symposium at University of Kansas
- Attended the Multicultural Pride Day at Kansas State University
- Donated food to help restock the local food pantry
- Conducted Moments in Black History for he entire month of February via the school PA system
- Donated clothes for local clothes closet
- End of the year incentive trip to the Great Wolf Lodge
