About Howard Wilson Elementary School
Parents, visitors, and substitutes tell us that Howard Wilson Elementary School is warmth and liveliness in action. We are buzzing with learning. Every year we begin with a school-wide theme on which all our learning activities are based. This year our theme is Dare to Care. Students are challenged to reach their Accelerated Reader goals each quarter with a gift or an activity, always related to the theme. Gifts might be a T-shirt, a type of food, a free book, a movie, even a trip to the river for a picnic. Incentives work.
We have received the Renaissance Model and Master School Certification Award for Reading for the last 4 years! We have acquired the State Standard of Excellence in Mathematics three times in the last six years. Our Kansas State Assessments in math and reading have surpassed the state and district averages! Outstanding staff members provide instruction from a curriculum that is aligned with assessments.
We are proud that we have strong parental support in our Site Council, our PTO, and with any activity we have. Our children are technologically literate as well, getting practice with Math and Reading Academies, Accelerated Reading and Math, Math Facts in a Flash, and other computer programs.
We have a service-based Student Council which invents ways to help our school be a compassionate, happy place. We are the only elementary school in the district offering a before-school Spanish class, which over 300 children have utilized.
All in all, we are excited about our school. We take learning and helping each other seriously.
Howard Wilson Elementary School classes begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.
