About Earl M. Lawson Elementary School
The Earl M. Lawson Elementary School is a place where learning is a priority. Students are involved in the Success For All reading program. This program places students in learning groups based on achievement instead of grade level. Students change groups quarterly based on personal growth. We also implement Every Day Mathematics in every classroom. This curriculum allows students to learn several algorithms to support concepts so they can apply their knowledge using critical thinking skills. Lawson Elementary School places an emphasis on literacy in the classroom thereby creating an opportunity for students to communicate ideas both orally and in writing. Classrooms are equipped with technology to enhance opportunities for student experience, especially in the areas of science and social studies. Lawson Elementary School also places an emphasis on fine art experiences. Students attend physical education for thirty minutes daily. They attend music three days a week for thirty minutes. Art and library are attended once a week for thirty minutes. Opportunities such as art lessons through Carnegie Arts Center, Jump Rope for Heart, Move It Family Night, Family Read Night and four music productions allow students and families to experience the fine arts curriculum together.

Lawson Elementary School has consistently made AYP over the last three years in both reading and mathematics. Student growth has been witnessed in both meeting AYP and in reducing the number of students below meeting the standard of proficiency.

Not only is our academic life important at Lawson Elementary School, but we take our students’ health very seriously. We participate in a mobile dentistry program in which a dentist comes to the school four times a year. We also participate in the District’s vitamin and preventative dental health program.

Our parents are also very supportive of our school. Parents Involved in Education (PIE), has funneled both volunteers and money into the school’s academic life. High parental involvement in Earl M. Lawson Elementary School committees, social and academic programs, and their annual monetary support to the Leavenworth Public Schools Education Foundation has marked this group of parents as committed, informed and dedicated to excellence in education. The cooperative learning environment at school is reinforced by the excellent home and school relations enjoyed at our school.

A strength of the Earl M. Lawson system is the employment of a full-time home/school coordinator who serves as a liaison between the school and the community.  A Businesspersons' Breakfast has been held each year in appreciation of the support given by neighborhood businesses and social organizations.
