About David Brewer Elementary School
Each member of the David Brewer Community is committed to the development of a challenging and supportive environment where: Each individual can be responsible for his/her learning. Every adult (staff, parents, and community member) is engaged in the process of establishing and modeling high standards. Successful academic experiences are structured, utilizing a format which integrates all academic areas.
We are dedicated to the development of healthy self-esteem that enables everyone to: Maintain high personal standards regarding work habits and citizenship. Develop interpersonal respect and appreciation of differences. Work cooperatively to help all achieve. Develop the social skills necessary to productively contribute to his/her class, school and community.
Activities:
Site Council - Site Council provides for shared decision making between faculty, parents, community and administration relating to school-wide improvement. The Site Council meets monthly in the evening at David Brewer School. BLT - The Building Leadership Team consists of teacher representatives and the principal. This group reviews data and strategies that will impact learning. They have the responsibility of taking information back to their grade level teams.
Friends of Brewer - We have an active parent group that meets on the first Thursday of each month. SSST - Student Staff Support Team - The SSST provides timely support to teachers and students when instructional, emotional, or social intervention is needed.
Curriculum:
Reading - To support all readers, flexible grouping is utilized, with an emphasis on phonics instruction, incorporating: Animated Alphabet, Harcourt Trophies Reading Series, Academy of Reading, Saxon Phonics, and Accelerated Reader. Math - Our math program encompasses McGraw Hill, Accelerated Math, Math-Their-Way, Math Facts Plus, Academy of Math, and Creative Problem Solver. Technology - There are 6 computers in each classroom. The computers are utilized for instruction in the areas of reading and math. Students also have the opportunity to access the internet for research. Video streaming is also available for classroom usage. CPS - Classroom Performance System is also used in the 5th grade classrooms.
After School Programs
- 1st and 2nd Grade tutoring in reading
- 5th Grade tutoring for designated students
- 4th Grade Mentorship Program with Les Novelettes, a community organization
- 5th Grade Nutrition Club in Partnership with the Leavenworth County Extension Office
- 5th Grade Junior ROTC Guard
- Boy Scout Troop/Girl Scout Troop
David Brewer Elementary School classes begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.
