Today's Leavenworth Public Schools...

• Thirty-three (33) LHS graduates have gone on to attain the rank of General.
• More than 90% of Leavenworth graduates go on to higher education.
• Leavenworth High School was one of the original eight high schools in Kansas to become members of the North Central Association (NCA) and is one of only three to be continuously accredited by NCA for 100 years.
• Average class size at the primary level (K-2) is 17.6 and at the elementary level (K-5) is 18.0.
• Three LHS graduates were named National Merit Finalists in 2009.
• Leavenworth High School offers fifteen (12) Advanced Placement courses including AP Biology, AP Chemistry, AP European History, and AP Calculus.
• Leavenworth Public Schools Educational Foundation was formed in 1999 and has awarded more than $550,000 to district teachers in the form of grants and special projects.
• Prominent LHS alumni include Wayne Simien, Big 12 Player of the Year in Basketball 2005; Melissa Etheridge, rock star; Melvin Lister, Olympian 2004.
• The Class of 2009 was awarded scholarships and grants totaling more than $5,600,000.
• Leavenworth High School graduates have received more appointments to military academies than any other high school in the area or state (47 in the past nine years).
• Forty-two LHS graduates have received recognition by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation in the past eleven years.
• Established in 1897 and officially sanctioned in 1917, Leavenworth High School has the oldest Army Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps program in the nation.
• Leavenworth schools offer greater diversity in student population than any other schools in the area. Minority students make up 40.2% of the total student population. An international presence (due to the international officers attending the Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth and Foreign Exchange Students) creates additional diversity not seen at other high schools. A walk down Leavenworth High School Main Street shows a line of flags representing each country that has had students attend the school. It is quite powerful.
• Competing in the largest class of school in Kansas, Leavenworth High School teams have garnered 22 state championships. 
• Education has always been important to the Leavenworth community. The first Board of Trustees for common schools in the City of Leavenworth met in July, 1858, three years before Kansas became a state (1861).
