Academic Achievements:
Anthony has consistently met AYP and the NCLB requirements. Math scores on the Kansas Assessment earned Anthony the “Building Standard of Excellence” status. Reading scores on the Kansas Assessment are above the state requirement. Attendance also improved 1.11% last school year.
Anthony also received the Challenge Award of Recognition from the “Confidence in Kansas Public Education Task Force” for achievement in Mathematics. This award places Anthony as one of the top 5 schools in our State Board of Education’s district.
Additional Information:
Anthony has a unique program emphasizing nutrition and exercise. We believe healthy, well-nourished children who exercise regularly reach their highest level of academic achievement. Lunches are delivered to students in the classroom and they eat lunch with their teacher. This provides teachers and students an opportunity to build relationships and learn proper table manners and conversation. Students also learn about nutrition while they eat. Structured Activity replaces the traditional recess. Students participate in supervised activities 40 minutes daily. A chewable RDA multi-vitamin is also available for students at no cost with parental consent.
Due to the success of our Eat, Exercise, Excel program a video was produced by The Center for the Improvement of Human Functioning International, Inc. of Wichita. The video has aired locally on Channel 2 and the Wichita PBS station KPTS. A copy of the video can be checked out from the school library to those interested in viewing it at home.
Activities:
Young Gentlemen of Anthony (YGA) is sponsored by: Bill Cannon, Jeremiah Nichol and Michael Kroll.
Girl Power is sponsored by: Shannon Brennan and Trienke Bruce.
Both groups are available to all students in grades 3-5 and meet weekly after school. Students learn about respectful behavior, service to our school and community, and fitness. Service to National Project Overseers, a volunteer mentoring organization comprised of officers and enlisted soldiers from Fort Leavenworth, work with students during and after school.
Parents Involved in Education (PIE):
This organization meets on the first Thursday of every month. They plan fund raisers for field trips and classroom activities. They also sponsor Family Read Night and Family Fun Night.
PIE collects: Campbell’s and Best Choice labels and Box Tops for Education. Please send those to school with your child. The labels are redeemed for cash and PE equipment and classroom supplies.
Community Partners:
The First Presbyterian Church has teamed up with Anthony for the last three years. Their members volunteer in classrooms, provided the school with a washer and dryer, and have made monetary contributions to our Eat, Exercise, Excel program and to the Anthony Bus Fund.
Purpose Driven Women, based in Lansing, are dedicating their time and energy to raise money for the Anthony Bus Fund. The fund was started this year to provide a bus for Anthony students living in the Woodland Village apartments. Their walk to and from school was a safety hazard and a major concern for those living in the community.
Anthony Elementary School classes begin at 8:15 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.
